marigold is a limited edition, hand-bound art book printed and bound in house in Southwest Detroit. It’s a sculpture, and a poetic anthology of written and visual art on the theme of marigolds, featuring work by

Manal Shoukair

as editor of the Marigold publication

Manal Shoukair (b. 1992, Los Angeles) is a Detroit-based Lebanese-American artist. She uses performance, video, sculpture and site-specific installations to explore the hyphenated spaces of her multicultural identity, islamic spirituality, and contemporary femininity. Manal earned a BFA from CCS and was awarded the Imre J Molnar Artistic Achievement Award in 2018. She was widely recognized for her site-specific installation, Elevate, at Shylo Arts, a former synagogue and church in the University District of Detroit. Elevate was published in Hyperallergic and Sculpture Magazine. Manal’s work has been exhibited in Mexico and at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe, in Hudson, New York, Grand Rapids, and throughout Detroit including CAID, the Scarab Club, D.A.M., the Detroit Historical Museum, Room Project, and as part of Art Mile with CAVE gallery.
Manal is currently pursuing a MFA and teaching at VCU.
